Outdoor Education
The lessons that nature provides are powerful and enduring.
This belief has been a part of Chadwick since its very inception, which is why our Outdoor Education program is offered at every grade level — including a customized sixth-grade experience.
As with the rest of the Sixers curriculum, this program is carefully curated for this unique moment in their education to bridge their growth from elementary school to middle school.
To launch their journey to Middle School, all 80 Sixers — 40 newcomers and 40 returning students — visit the Catalina Island Marine Institute in September. Over five days, they dive into hands-on biology and ecology studies, practice leadership and teamwork, and live alongside classmates and teachers. Embarking on this trip as individuals, they return as one tightly bonded community, ready to support each other in every challenge ahead. And because there’s nothing like living with someone for five days — it’s a great way to solidify social connections, forge new friendships and build social, emotional skills.
It’s a responsible, safe progression from Village School Outdoor Education that reinforces their readiness for the excursions to come in Middle School.
