Spanish
The world is a remarkably big place, but at the same time, it’s also wonderfully connected.
Right from the start, we show students the importance of different cultures, backgrounds and customs. This exposure helps them to become empathetic, caring global citizens.
Our Village School Spanish is a perfect example of our mission at work. Beginning in kindergarten, children take part in a special Spanish program with a dedicated Village Spanish teacher. Multiple times a week, they learn all about the building blocks of the language, including its history and cultural role.
This exposure helps open their minds and foster appreciation for different parts of the world. It also enhances their overall ability to listen, speak, read and write, which adds a boost for their other studies, while also inspiring curiosity and cultural competence.
And it’s all housed within lessons that are intentionally interactive — because, after all, children learn best by doing!
Lower Village
The basics don’t have to be boring. The first few years of Spanish in the Lower Village School (grades K-2) are loaded with collaborative activities, songs, games and more! Students learn the essential elements of the language in a way that draws parallels to their command of English and brings the entire classroom together in a fun way. They’re able to carry on basic conversations with teachers in Spanish, and we love it when they go home and speak and sing to their families in Spanish!
Upper Village
We call them building blocks for a reason. With a strong foundation in place, students in third to fifth grade take their Spanish to the next level, learning how to read and write and conjugate verbs. By the time they become sixth graders, every student has a strong Spanish base that will serve them well in their ongoing language pursuits.
